Summary

A probable World War Two air raid shelter is visible as an extant earth covered structure on 1940s aerial photographs. The shelter, which appears to stand at ground level or is only slightly sunken, is probably an Anderson or similar type of civilian family shelter, contrasting with the larger public shelter approximately 55m to its southeast (NHER 27368). Modern maps indicate that the site now underlies Nottingham Way.

Map

May 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A probable World War Two air raid shelter is visible as an extant, earth or vegetation covered structure on 1940s aerial photographs (S1), centred at TG 5254 0709. Its small size suggests that it is an Anderson or another similar kind of surface shelter used by civilian families. More recent aerial photographs and modern maps show that the site has since been levelled and now underlies Nottingham Way.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 19 May 2005.
