Full Description
Rear section of present building aligned north-south, gabled. Red bricks in Flemish bond. Sawtooth gable to south, pilasters at corners; pointed door flanked by foundation stones, one of 1878 with names now within 20th century outshut, the other eroded, leaving on '1878 .. stone laid by .. Edwards .. Tongue, superintendent minister'. East wall has four pilasters, corbelled in at eaves except one perhaps originally a chimney. Three sash windows. North wall not seen, west wall replaced by folding doors to present chapel, aligned east-west. Four foundation stones of 1891. Side walls of red brick panels, dividing by pilasters and aplinth painted white. 'Romanesque' dentilled eaves and springers. Three full height upright windows to south, with pulvinated canted arches. Only two windows to north. West front with tall blank gable, the same dentils along its south slopes, and pattress plates. Below is gabled porch with pointed door with hoodmould extended to each side as apsed lobby, all with same dentils; lancet windows to north and south. Oculus in east gable above older building. Now disused, the west lobby leads to a door each side of former platform; does the central blank north bay indicate the pulpit was originally here?
Originally a Primitive Methodist chapel; a black building slightly to the north on (S1) may be an earlier chapel.
