Full Description
Gothic Works.
Large engineering factory. Known to date from after 1883 on map evidence. Constructed of brick with curtain wall formed with towers, battlements and false machicolations in the style of Carcassonne. Wall towards railway is blank, enhancing the impression of a contained unit. It was a fine example of multicoloured patterned brickwork until the 1980s when it was coated with wallshield paint. Part of north end demolished 2005 after request for listing was refused, but this may have been a later addition.
E. Rose (NLA), 9 May 2005.
Within the curtain wall, this is a north light building.
E. Rose (NLA), 13 June 2005.
