Full Description
June 1981. Listed, Grade II.
Listing Description:
Early 18th century house of red brick with blue headers. Steep tiled roof with rendered gables. Two storeys and attics. Four windows of early 18th century date, some blocked. Gabled wing to southwest.
Information from (S1).
Rear of house seen very briefly May 2005. This wall is in Flemish bond. The rear wing is gabled separately north-south from the main block. There is a 19th century chimney at the junction that could be a reconstruction of an earlier example. Side walls of wing are of brick with altered openings but gable wall is rendered; is it timber framed and older than the main block? However see NHER 41702 for the adjacent barn suggesting this group is all of around 1670.
E. Rose (NLA), 17 May 2005.
February 2008. Building recording.
A 2-storey property of four bays aligned east-west, with an additional 1-storey wing on the south side. The house is externally clad in bricks laid in a Flemmish bond. There were originally 8 windows on the north side to create a symmetrical façade, but 4 1/2 have now been blocked up. The building is likely to date from the late 17th or early 18th century, indicated by the in-line roof purlins and the deliberate attempt to create a symmetrical façade. The house is believed to once have been part of the Caister Hall estate.
See (S2) and (S3) for further details,
