Map

June 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A World War Two road block is visible as extant structures and scarring to the road surface on wartime aerial photographs (S1) and (S2), centred at TG 5284 0880. Two slit trenches, visible as earthworks on the same photographs, lie on the verge to its east. The roadblock appears to date from the early years of the war, as there is something visible here on photographs taken in February 1941 (S1). It is more clearly visible on later photographs (S2) when it consists of an area of scarred road surface, probably indicating the presence of sockets to take anti-tank rails or bent pins. Linear marks across the width of the road may represent further barriers; a central upstanding structure may be a group of upright rails, or some other kind of obstacle. Later aerial photographs indicate that the roadblock was removed and the area levelled by 1945.
