Summary

A static emergency water supply tank, dating to World War Two, is visible as an extant structure on wartime aerial photographs. It is one of several such tanks positioned around the town for use by fire fighters after bombing raids. It is first visible on photographs taken in March 1944, and had been removed by October 1945.

A World War Two emergency water supply tank is visible as an extant structure on aerial photographs (S1 and 2), centred at TG 5272 0797. It consists of an above ground circular tank, one of several erected at various locations around the town. In this case, it may have been intended specifically for Grouts Silk Factory, as it is located within its grounds. The tank was removed by October 1945 (S3).
