Summary

A group of World War Two air raid shelters is visible as earth covered structures on 1940s aerial photographs. Their proximity to Grouts Silk Factory suggests that they may have been industrial shelters provided for workers at the factory, although they may also have been used by local residents. The site has been levelled since the end of the war and is now used as a carpark.
