Summary

A possible World War Two surface air raid shelter is visible as an extant structure on 1940s aerial photographs. It was presumably used by inhabitants of the surrounding houses. Since the end of the war the site has been levelled and built over.

Map

July 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A structure, probably a World War Two surface air raid shelter, is visible on aerial photographs (S1), centred at TG 5223 0801. It is very similar in appearance to two probable surface shelters identified elsewhere in the town (NHER 27444). It is, however, difficult to see clearly on the consulted aerial photographs due to the shadows cast by the surrounding buildings and its interpretation is therefore uncertain. Modern maps and aerial photographs demonstrate that the area has been levelled and built over since the end of the war.
