Summary

A World War Two air raid shelter is visible as an earth covered structure on 1940s aerial photographs. Its location and relatively small size suggest that it was used by the residents of nearby houses. The site has been levelled since the end of the war.

Map

July 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A World War Two air raid shelter is visible as an earth covered structure on aerial photographs (S1) and (S2), centred at TG 5229 0813. It appears to consist of two curved or parabola profiled elements erected side by side to form a rectangular block. These may be semi-sunken or surface structures. Entrances probably lay at the east end of each element but are difficult to make out on the consulted aerial photographs due to the shadow cast by surrounding buildings. More recent aerial photographs and modern maps indicate that the site has been levelled since the end of the war.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 12 July 2005.
