Summary

Small World War Two air raid shelters, probably Anderson shelters, are visible as earth covered structures on 1940s aerial photographs. The six shelters lie in the back gardens of numbers 10, 14, 16, 18, 22 and 24 Lawn Avenue. Small shelters like these were intended for the use of a single family or household. There is no evidence on more recent aerial photographs that any remnant of these six now survives above ground.

Map

July 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A group of World War Two air raid shelters is visible as earth covered structures on aerial photographs (S1). The shelters lie in the back gardens of houses on the east side of Lawn Avenue (numbers 10, 14, 16, 18, 22 and 24), between TG 5224 0859 and TG 5223 0854. Their size and shape suggests that they are probably Anderson shelters, or a similar design. There is no evidence on more recent aerial photographs or modern maps that any now survive above ground and they were probably levelled soon after the end of the war.
