Summary

A possible World War Two road block is visible as two concrete blocks on 1940s aerial photographs. These are situated on either side of a former railway bridge (part of NHER 13581), a common location for anti invasion blockades. The blocks might have held horizontal rails, or might have formed part of a line of anti tank cubes, the remainder of which were either under the bridge (and therefore not visible) or had been removed by the time the photographs were taken.

Map

July 2005. Norfolk NMP.
Two probable anti tank cubes or concrete blocks, perhaps part of a World War Two roadblock or tank trap, are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1944 (S1) and (S2), centred at TG 5223 0874. They lie on either side of a railway bridge (now destroyed; part of NHER 13581)) and may have formed part of a larger blockade in place at an earlier stage in the war. They had both been removed by August 1945 (S3). It should be noted that their identification as anti tank cubes is not certain, and they might instead be part of the revetment for the bridge. The location of the northern block, however, partway up the railway embankment, and the apparent removal of both blocks at the end of the war, supports their interpretation as war related features.
