Map

July 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A World War Two spigot mortar emplacement is visible on contemporary aerial photographs (S1 to S2). This defensive structure was located at TG 5161 1249. The central pedestal and surrounding trench and bank are clearly visible on the aerial photographs. The earliest aerial photographs showing the emplacement date to May 1944 (S1) although it is likely that it was constructed earlier in the war. It occupied an apparently isolated position 230m to the north of a pillbox (NHER 27481). However, it is possible that by 1944 any associated barbed wire or other defences had been removed. The pedestal had been removed by September 1965 and the site was subsequently built over.
J. Albone (NMP), 18 July 2005.
