Full Description
July 2005. Norfolk NMP.
Two World War Two surface air raid shelters are visible on contemporary aerial photographs (S1 to S4). These were located in the grounds of a school to the east of High Street at TG 5211 1220. These two surface shelters were rectangular in plan and measured 12m by 3.5m. They are typical of shelters present in school grounds for the use of pupils and staff and appear to have been of brick construction with flat concrete roofs. One shelter was located to the southwest of the school building, parallel to High Street, with the other located centrally within the garden to the southeast of the school. These shelters had been constructed by December 1940 (S1) and were demolished before April 1952 (S5). Four surface shelters of similar design were present at the school on Beach Road (NHER 27488).
J. Albone (NMP), 20 July 2005.
