Map

July 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A World War Two air raid shelter is visible on contemporary aerial photographs (S1 to S3). This shelter was located at TG 5223 1209 on the eastern side of High Street. It appears to have been constructed in two parts. The northeastern part comprised four adjoining sections with barrel type roofs and was presumably the shelter itself. The southwestern part, which fronted onto High Street, had a flat concrete roof forming the entrance area. This was a small public surface shelter sited to serve the properties on this section of High Street. This may have been a local air raid shelter design and others of this type were present in Caister village (NHER 27482, 27500, 27501 and 27507). The shelter on High Street was constructed by February 1941 (S1). It had been demolished by July 1946 (S4).
