Full Description
July 2005. Norfolk NMP.
Four World War Two surface air raid shelters are visible on contemporary aerial photographs (S1 to S3). They were located at a school on Beach Road at TG 5233 1213. These four surface shelters were rectangular in plan and measured 12m by 3.2m. They are typical of shelters present in school grounds for the use of pupils and staff and appear to have been of brick construction with flat concrete roofs. All four shelters were present side by side to north of the school buildings. These shelters had been constructed between August and December 1940 (S3 to S4) and were demolished before April 1952 (S5). Two shelters of a similar type were also present in the grounds of a school on High Street (NHER 27486).
J. Albone (NMP), 20 July 2005.
