Summary

A World War Two surface air raid shelter is visible on aerial photographs taken between 1940 and 1945. It was was located on the northern side of Beach Road and served nearby properties. Constructed between August and December 1940, it had been demolished by July 1946.

A World War Two air raid shelter is visible on contemporary aerial photographs (S1 to S3). This public surface shelter was located at TG 5256 1206 on the northern side of Beach Road. It comprised four adjoining sections with barrel type roofs and was sited to serve properties in the vicinity. Its design is similar to other shelters present in Caister village, but it lacks the flat roofed entrance present on the other examples (NHER 27482, 27487, 27500, 27501, 27507). This shelter was constructed between August and December 1940 (S3 to S4). It had been demolished by July 1946 (S5).
