Map

August 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A large World War Two air raid shelter is visible on aerial photographs (S1) and (S2), centred at TG 5294 0703. It was located within the grounds of one or more schools (S3) and was presumably used by staff and pupils. It consisted of a roughly rectilinear earthwork mound, which would have covered a semi sunken structure. Three small square structures (possibly enclosing apertures) in the 'roof' of the mound are probably ventilation shafts. Three entrances, all protected by side walls or shuttering, are visible; one lies at each end of the shelter, the third is located at the centre of its north side. The edge of what may be an associated concrete pad or base and two small ground level structures can also be seen. More recent aerial photographs and modern maps indicate that the shelter was levelled after the end of the war.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 1 August 2005.
