A mound is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs taken in 1945 and 1946. It appears on a late 19th century Ordnance Survey map and is labelled as an ‘Old Drainage Pump’, suggesting it was the site of a post medieval wind pump. By 1952 the mound had been levelled.

Map

July 2005. Norfolk NMP.
An earthwork of a mound associated with a post medieval wind pump is visible on aerial photographs (S1 to S2). This earthwork was located adjacent to a drainage ditch at TG 5198 1160. A circular mound with a diameter of 9m is visible on the aerial photographs. The mound appears to have been surrounded by a narrow ditch that was linked to the pattern of drainage ditches in this area of marshland.
The mound is marked on the first edition 25 inch to the mile Ordnance Survey map (S3) and is labelled as an ‘Old Drainage Pump’. Neither the mound nor the associated drainage ditch is marked on the mid 19th century Caister on Sea tithe map (S4) or earlier cartographic sources. It is likely that this drainage pump was constructed during the 19th century but had gone out of use by the 1880s. The mound appears to have been still extant in 1946 (S2) but had been levelled by 1952 (S5).
