Map

August 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A group of five possible World War Two bomb craters are visible on contemporary aerial photographs (S1 to S4). They were centred on TG 5192 1161 in an area of reclaimed marshland to the southwest of Caister on Sea village.
The largest of the possible craters was located at TG 5192 1160 and had an 11m diameter (S1). A small raised bank is visible around the crater formed by the upcast soil. The remaining four craters were all smaller, with diameters of only 3.5m. Two of these were located to the south of the main crater and two to its north. The craters are visible on aerial photographs dating to 26 March 1944 (S2). They did not appear fresh at that time and probably relate to an air raid in the earlier part of World War Two. The craters had been backfilled by September 1965 (S5).
