Summary

In 2003 test pitting along the route of the A11 Attleborough Bypass Improvement Scheme revealed no archaeologically-significant features or deposits at this location. A watching brief maintained during groundworks associated with this scheme in 2005 revealed a single potentially prehistoric pit and a number of other undated linear and discrete features. Datable finds were limited to a small number of prehistoric flint flakes.

August 2005. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks at Hill's End Farm (work part of the Attleborough Bypass A11 Improvement scheme).
The stripping of a narrow corridor at this location revealed a number of linear and discrete features. The former were mostly drainage gullies of probable recent date, although two ditches at the southern end of the site were possibly of greater archaeological significance. The discrete features included one possible pit that contained a number of prehistoric flint flakes, along with fragments of burnt flint and fired clay. The others were of probable natural origin.
See report (S4) for further details. The results of this fieldwork associated with this scheme are also summarised in (S4).
An archive associated with this work has been deposited with Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2025.173).
