Summary

Cropmarks of two rectangular pits, possibly Saxon grubenhauser (sunken feature buildings), are visible on aerial photographs. They are aligned roughly north to south and measure 8m by 5m and 6m by 4m. However, without any associated finds, it is equally possible that they are extractive pits of unknown date.

Map

September 2005. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of two rectangular pits, possibly Saxon grubenhauser are visible on aerial photographs (S1) and (S2). These cropmarks are centred on TG 4987 1317 and lie within a coaxial field system of possible Bronze Age origin (NHER 12996). They are aligned roughly north to south and measure 8m by 5m and 6m by 4m. The larger pit has a 1.5m square extension on its northeast corner. The size and shape of these pits makes it possible that they are Saxon grubenhauser. However, without any associated finds, it is equally possible that they are extractive pits of unknown date.
