Full Description
September 2005. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of undated linear ditches are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These cropmarks are centred on TG 4688 1248. A total of seven sections of ditch cropmark are present in this group. Four of these in the northern part of the group lie on a roughly westnorthwest to east southeast alignment. These ditches cross the line of the Filby and Mautby parish boundary. This may indicate that they are of Middle Saxon or earlier date. A short section of ditch, between TG 4678 1248 and TG 4684 1249 appears to continue the alignment of the parish boundary that is present to its northeast. It is possible that this ditch is of medieval or post medieval date. Two roughly parallel ditches in the southeast of the group at TG 4700 1244 also have a similar alignment to the parish boundary and may be of a contemporary date.
