Summary

Cropmarks of undated linear ditches are visible on aerial photographs. Some of these ditch cropmarks have a similar alignment to the modern field pattern and may be post medieval field boundaries. Other ditches in this group have an alignment similar to possible Roman field boundaries 400m to the northeast (NHER 18913) and could be of the same date.

Map

October 2005. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of undated linear ditches are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These cropmarks are centred on TG 4654 1147. A total of nine sections of ditch cropmark are present within this group. The ditches are present on two different sets of alignments. Two sections of ditch extend for a total of 142m on the same alignment between TG 4649 1142 and TG 4663 1146. A third section of ditch is aligned parallel to these two, 10m to the south. Their alignment is perpendicular to the modern road to the west and field boundary to the east and it is likely that they relate to post medieval field boundaries. The other six ditch cropmarks in this group are all aligned on a northwest to southeast or southwest to northeast alignment. Although undated, their alignment is similar to possible Roman field boundary cropmarks located 400m to the northeast (NHER 18913).
