Full Description
May 2003. Norfolk NMP.
Two linear features visible on RAF aerial photographs from 1946 (S1) and 1963 (S2). The northern stretch of ditch runs from TG 12231 40650 to TG 1229 4044 and is visible as an earthwork in 1946 (S1) and a cropmark in 1963 (S2). This feature is 217m long and 2.5-4m wide. The southern linear is visible as a cropmark in both images and runs from TG 1235 4033 to TG 1239 4028. This cropmark is 70m and of equivalent width. These linears appears to continue the alignment of a diagonal land boundary that is still present within the modern village layout. This may mark the line of a former boundary or trackway, possible dating from the medieval-post-medieval organisation of the village and surrounding fields.
S. Massey (NMP), 15 May 2003.
