Full Description
June 2003. Norfolk NMP.
Group of linear features visible on a variety of aerial photographs; Ordnance Survey aerial photographs from 1981 (S1) and 1989 (S3) and BKS aerial photographs from 1988 (S2). The linears are all likely to represent ditches, although some of the features may be related to drainage.
One cluster of ditches is centred on TG 1418 4279, although these are likely to represent a palimpsest of features. The majority of the linears appear quite fragmentary and slightly irregular in shape. One linear does stand out as being particularly straight, running from TG 1415 4280 to TG 1417 4275 and measuring 54m long and 1m wide. This may have a corresponding ditch fragment to the south which forms a T-shaped arrangement with a ditch running from TG 1416 4272 to TG 1420 4276, which is also 54m long and 1m wide.
Another group of linear and curvilinear features is centred on TG 1428 4264. There are two particularly straight and parallel linears, which may relate to drainage. A broader curvilinear feature runs from TG 1423 4269 to TG 1429 4253, measuring up to 190m long and 1 to 2m wide. As with the other groups of linears these ditches are likely to be a palimpsest of features of unknown definite date.
