Map

June 2003. Norfolk NMP.
Area of World War Two trenches and possible pillbox visible on RAF aerial photographs from 1946 (S1). A rectangular structure is located at TG 1185 4268, measuring 6.5m by 4m. This structure is still visible in 1955 (S2); however it is not visible on later aerial photographs. This structure is located on the south side of an elongated mound, presumably natural. This raised area has several stretches of zigzag military slit trenches, up to 20m long, and a circular pit feature at TG 1186 4269. These earthworks attest to World War Two military activity on this area, so it is possible that this structure is also of this date. It may be a pillbox or similar defensive structure.
S. Massey (NMP), 30 June 2003.
