Map

November 2003. Norfolk NMP.
A linear ditch visible on top of Muckleburgh Hill on RAF aerial photographs from 1946 (S1) and 1950 (S2). Judging by the freshness of the earthworks, it is possible that the feature relates to the World War Two activity on the Hill. The ditch runs from TG 1003 4289 to TG 1007 4291 and measures 44.5m long and approximately 1m across. Many linear features are visible running up to the top of the hill, although these are much wider and shallower. These appear to be well-worn vehicle tracks. The linear recorded however appears to be narrow, well defined and of greater depth and therefore would seem to be a ditch, rather than a track.
S. Massey (NMP), 17 November 2003.
