Full Description
December 2003. Norfolk NMP.
World War Two earthworks of slit trenches, weapons pits and a possible gun emplacement visible on RAF aerial photographs from 1946 (S1) and 1950 (S2). These features are likely to be related to training exercises on the heath. The possible gun emplacement is located at TG 1014 4216 and measures 4m by 3.5m. It is surrounded by a slight bank, which leads off to the east, possibly indicating an entrance. To the east is an alignment of three slit trenches, 9-10m apart, running from TG 1017 4215 to TG 1015 4216. These trenches are all 2-3m long and 1-1.5m wide. Another two pits are visible to the west to of this site, located at TG 1010 4215 and TG 1011 4217.
