Map

January 2004. Norfolk NMP.
A possible World War Two gun emplacement and weapons pits on Kelling Heath and visible on RAF aerial photographs from 1946 (S1) and OS vertical aerial photographs from 1969 (S2). These features would have formed part of the military training site on the heath, although they presumably served a defensive purpose as well.
At TG 1025 4178 is an oblong sunken feature, 5.5m by 5m and surrounded by a bank, with an entrance to the north west. This is possibly a gun emplacement, although the earthworks are not clear on aerial photographs. To the south is another pit at TG 1054 4177, 5m by 4m. Another pair of pits are visible to the east , both are roughly rectangular in shape and 2m by 4m, at TG 1055 4180 and TG 1056 4179.
S. Massey (NMP), 8 January 2004.
