NHER 42108 (Monument record) - Cropmarks of undated ditches

Cropmarks of undated linear ditches, probably field boundaries, are visible on aerial photographs (S1) to (S6). These cropmarks are centred on TG 4940 1380 and were previously recorded as part of NHER 18914 and 35532. A large number of short sections of linear ditches are present on a range of different alignments. Some of these are aligned northwest to southeast and southwest to northeast. It is possible that these ditches represent a fragmentary continuation of a possible Bronze Age field system that lies mainly to the southwest (NHER 12997). One possible field, measuring 295m by 174m, is centred on TG 4948 1375. However, the cropmarks are too fragmentary for this to be definitely confirmed as a field and no other fields can be determined. A curvilinear ditch extends for 284m from TG 4932 1376 to TG 4960 1380 (S4). This ditch cuts across the possible field system and was previously recorded as part of NHER 35532. It and other ditches on alignments that do not conform to the field system are probably field boundaries of unknown date.
