Full Description
November 2005. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks visible on aerial photographs (S1) and (S2), centred at TG 4597 2394, probably represent drainage features. Their date remains uncertain. Their rather fragmentary and irregular layout contrasts with that of the drainage system (NHER 42154) 70m to the south which probably dates to the post medieval period. Like that site, it is possible that these drains too are associated with the ponds (possibly former extraction pits) depicted in this area on Faden’s 1797 map of Norfolk (S3). It should be noted that the cropmarks were not particularly clear on the consulted aerial photographs, and consequently there is a relatively high risk that some of the mapped features are not of archaeological origin.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 15 November 2005.
