Summary

A wreck of an unidentified boat is visible in Breydon Water on aerial photographs (S1-S2). This wreck is located at TG 4804 0706 and lies 40m southeast of the northern bank of Breydon Water close to Lockgate Windmill. The vessel is aligned on a northwest to southeast axis, with its bow to the southeast. It is fully visible and measures 17m (56 feet) long by 4m (13 feet) wide. A rectangular superstructure measuring 5m by 1.5m is visible on the starboard side in the rear half of the vessel is clearly visible on aerial photographs dating to June 1977 (S1). The wreck is not as clearly visible on May 1980 aerial photographs and may have partly broken up (S2). It is positioned on, and perpendicular to, the north side of the 'Cross Creek' channel marked on the second edition 25 inch Ordnance Survey map (S3). Although it is not possible to determine the type of vessel it is probably of 19th or 20th century date. Further wrecks are located 30m to the north (NHER 42383-4) and 280m to the northeast (NHER 42186-8).
