Full Description
September 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A dispersed group of ditched cropmarks, possibly representing field boundaries and a trackway of unknown date, is visible on aerial photographs, to the northwest of Brograve Farm (S1 and S2). The site is centred on TG 4412 2548, although this point does not correspond to an archaeological feature on the ground.
Running from TG 4402 2545 to TG 4412 2531 are a series of fragmentary linear ditches which appear to be part of a trackway or similar linear feature. Centred on TG 4412 2540 is a broad ditched L-shaped linear, which varies in width from 2 to 4m. A narrow parallel ditch runs alongside the northern arm. It is possible that this is part of an enclosure or field. To the north of the site, centred on TG 4415 2563, is another group of cropmarks, again possibly incorporating trackway elements, but they are too fragmentary to allow for much interpretation, other than suggesting that they are likely to be field boundaries of unknown date.
Also visible on the aerial photographs were a variety of geological cropmarks, which made identification of the archaeological features quite hard. It is possible that additional man-made features have not been recognised and equally that some of the mapped features could be geological in origin.
