Summary

A timber framed boathouse with a thatched roof, in Japanese style. It was originally constructed in 1936 by local builder Norman Howard for Colonel Herbert McDougall of Cawston Manor to a design by Cecil Upcher, the famous architect. The boathouse was destroyed by fire in 1989, but the upper part was rebuilt in replica on the original brick base by Mr Howard's son.

Originally built 1936 by Cecil Upcher, famous Norfolk architect, and the first commission of Cawston builder Norman Howard who made the bricks locally, for Colonel Herbert McDougall.
Destroyed by fire January 1989, upper part rebuilt in replica on original brick base April 1989 by son of Mr Howard. Timber frame with thatched roof in 'Japanese' style.
