Map

Listed as 5C and 5E Manor Road, GIS shows one range of buildings divided into 5 and 5a to 5g.These will all share the Listing designation as curtilage; is the listing address a mistake in restricting it to two divisions?
Former manor house, mid 17th century; rubble carrstone, brick dressings, red pantiled roof. Two storeys and attic. Two builds, straight joint and roof parapet marks division. Possible manor house of West hall, later workhouse. Gable stacks and fire windows to ground floor at each end. At rear is first floor addition with brick Dutch gable of around 1700 having a rebuilt stack 'suggesting a still socially prestigious use for the house at that date'. Interior with stopped and chamfered ground floor beams, butt purlin roof with some windbracing. (S1) which is hard to follow as regards the number of bays, probably due to a printing error; (S2) in file shows the section between the stacks as of four major bays on two storeys, plus the fire windows, and four dormers. (S3) confirms that this was a workhouse in 1828 and shows its location as being on a common edge. Could the other subdivisions be of workhouse origin?
(S4) is quoted by (S1).
