Map

December 2005. Norfolk NMP.
The site of a World War Two air raid shelter is visible on aerial photographs (S1) within the grounds of the former infectious diseases hospital (NHER 10587). A further structure identified to the west of the range of hospital buildings may also represent a military building or additional shelter, although this is not certain. The site is centred on TG 5160 0320.

The shelter is visible as an extant earth covered mound, measuring approximately 3m by 2.5m, with a blast wall protected western entrance and a circular vent or hatch at the rear. The shelter was located where the rear garden of 14 Cambridge Way now stands. Located alongside the external western wall of the old hospital, at TG 5153 0320, was a rectangular structure, measuring 8.5m by 4.5m. This was not mapped due to uncertainty of the nature and date of the structure, although it is possible that it could have been a further surface shelter.
