Summary

Metal-detecting at this location in 2005 recovered a Late Saxon disc brooch and a post-medieval silver coin. A much more extensive and systematic fieldwalking and metal-detecting survey undertaken in 2011 recovered mostly post-medieval objects, earlier material being limited to a small number of prehistoric worked flints and single sherds of Roman and medieval pottery. The post-medieval finds assemblage comprised coins, jettons, pottery sherds, clay tobacco pipe fragments, a small number of brick and tile fragments and a range of copper alloy objects. It was also noted during a subsequent geophysical survey that there was much post-medieval pottery scattered across the surface of this field (see NHER 63107 for details of the main results of this work).
