Map

January 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A group of World War Two air raid shelters is visible on aerial photographs alongside Church Road, Gorleston (S1). The site is centred on TG 5246 0460. The main component of the site is a large communal civilian shelter situated on Church Lane, opposite the end of Duke Road, at TG 5248 0462. The earth mound covering this immense shelter measures approximately 26m across. This shelter has two elongated entrances and four square vents or hatches are visible. This plot has since been redeveloped and 127 High Street and a car park are now present. To the immediate south of this is a small earthen mound within the garden of number 125, this is presumably an Anderson shelter for the use of the family. To the south at TG 5244 0458 is a slightly larger and triangular shelter within the rear garden of number 123.
S. Massey (NMP), 03 January 2006.
