Map

January 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A World War Two air raid shelter is visible on aerial photographs at Middleton gardens in Gorleston (S1). The shelter is centred on TG 5241 0432. The shelter a completely subsurface structure, only identified from the two entrances cut into the ground surface, which lead down to it. The shelter was probably quite considerable size and would have been for communal use.

The three entrances are between 12 and 18m apart and indicate that the subsurface shelter was at least 40m long and up to 20m wide. Four square vents or hatches are visible positioned in between the two southern entrances. A possible low square structure may be located at TG 5242 0433, although this is not definite, as it may be a feature associated with the gardens.
