A possible World War Two pillbox or gun emplacement may be visible on aerial photographs from 1941 on Dukeshead Lane, Gorleston (S1). The structure is centred on TG 5260 0460 and appears to be roughly polygonal in shape, approximately 4m across and light in colour. This could indicate that it is a type 22 pillbox or similar gun emplacement. However the structure cannot clearly to seen on the 1941 aerial photographs and it is not visible on later aerial photographs of the site, only an area of rough vegetation is visible. It is therefore possible the structure has been removed or destroyed prior to 1944 to 1945, or it was a optical illusion on the earlier, poorer quality images, which were only viewed a laser copies of the original aerial photographs.
