Map

January 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A possible World War Two air raid shelter is visible on aerial photographs within the garden of 45 Gorleston High Street (S1). The shelter is centred on TG 5259 0465 and is 4.5m across and has the appearance being built up against the property boundary, the roof sloping down to the south, with a revetting wall to either side. A possible hole or depression may be visible on the roof, although this was not definite. A structure is mapped at this location on the Ordnance Survey Second Edition map (1902 to 1907, 25 inch) (S2), and in 1941 show the roof of the building clearly (S3). It seems likely that this existing structure was covered to act as a shelter and would have for the use of the family living in the property.
S. Massey (NMP), 05 January 2006.
