Map

January 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A slightly curvilinear bank, flanked by ditches, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs (S1 to S2), between TG 4682 2068 and TG 4665 2058. It may have been a trackway, or perhaps a bank associated with drainage and the control of flooding. It is not depicted on any of the consulted historic (mainly 19th century) maps. Although its curvilinear shape is at odds with the surrounding pattern of rectilinear drains (see the Ordnance Survey 2nd edition 25 inch map (S3 to S4), for example) its western end leads towards the corner formed by two of these drains which may indicate that it is of contemporary, late post medieval date. It may even be associated with the woodland which once occupied the site, also shown on the Ordnance Survey 2nd edition map. More recent aerial photographs of the site indicate that the earthworks have now probably been levelled.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 5 January 2006.
