Map

January 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A group of World War Two air raid shelters is visible on aerial photographs on Bell’s Marsh Road and Riverside Road, West Quay, Gorleston (S1). The site includes four small shelters, which are visible as earthen covered mounds, probably Anderson shelters, and these would have been for the use of the families living in the properties. The site is centred on TG 5291 0402, although this point does not correspond to an archaeological feature on the ground.

The four domestic air raid shelters are visible as earth covered mounds, approximately 2m by 2.5m and are probably all Anderson shelters. These are located in the rear gardens of numbers 133 and 135 Bell’s Marsh Road and 25 and 28a Riverside Road.
