NHER 42421 (Monument record) - Medieval to post medieval drainage ditches

Earthworks of linear drainage ditches of medieval to post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These earthworks are centred on TG 4845 0882 in an area of former marshland. Two linear ditches are present on a roughly southwest to northeast alignment. The longest of these extends for 450m and is cut by a modern drainage ditch. It is flanked by narrow earthwork banks on both sides. A shorter linear ditch earthwork is present further to the south. It extends for up to 225m and is cut by the Norwich to Great Yarmouth railway line that opened in 1883. A short section of narrow ditch lies perpendicularly across it, but it is not clear if these two features are contemporary with each other. None of these ditches are marked on the 1839 Runham tithe map (S2) and it is likely that they are of medieval to post medieval date.
