Summary

Earthworks of curvilinear ditches and banks of probable medieval to post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs. It is possible that these curvilinear ditches originated as natural channels. However, it is likely that they were incorporated into the drainage pattern during the medieval or post medieval period.

Map

January 2006. Norfolk NMP.
Earthworks of curvilinear ditches and banks of probable medieval to post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These earthworks are centred on TG 4604 0842 in an area of former marshland. A narrow curvilinear ditch extends for approximately 460m on a roughly west to east alignment. Its eastern end joins an extant curvilinear drainage ditch. The earthwork ditch is flanked by wide levee earthworks along its entire length. A short section of narrow curving ditch is present immediately to its south. It is probable that these curvilinear ditches originated as natural channels. However, it is likely that they were incorporated into the drainage pattern during the medieval or post medieval period.
J. Albone (NMP), 19 January 2006.
