Summary

Earthworks of ditches and channels of probable medieval to post medieval date on a range of different alignments are visible on aerial photographs. It is likely that these features originated as natural channels and that they were later incorporated into the drainage pattern, possibly during the medieval to post medieval period. A single linear ditch with a west to east alignment is present and is probably of post medieval date.

Map

January 2006. Norfolk NMP.
Earthworks of curvilinear and linear ditches and channels of probable medieval to post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These earthworks are centred on TG 4563 0916 in an area of former marshland. A large number of curvilinear ditch or channel earthworks are present on a range of different alignments. The majority of these appear to join onto, or lead towards, extant linear drainage ditches. It is likely that these curvilinear features originated as natural channels and that they were later incorporated into the drainage pattern, possibly during the medieval to post medieval period. None of these ditches were marked on the second edition 6 inch to the mile Ordnance Survey map (S2). A single linear ditch with a west to east alignment is present in this group at TG 4568 0918. It was marked on the second edition Ordnance Survey map and is probably of post medieval date.
J. Albone (NMP), 20 January 2006.
