Summary

A group of World War Two air raid shelters are visible on aerial photographs within the back gardens on Russell Avenue and Pound Lane, Gorleston. These shelters are visible as earthen mounds, probably covering Anderson shelters, and these would have been for the use of the families living in the properties.

A group of World War Two air raid shelters is visible on aerial photographs within the back gardens on Russell Avenue and Pound Lane, Gorleston (S1). These shelters are visible as earthen mounds, probably covering Anderson shelters, and these would have been for the use of the families living in the properties. The site is centred on TG 5226 0311.

The majority of the shelters are all approximately 3m by 2m and are located within the gardens of numbers 3, 5, 7 and 9 Pound Lane, 172, 184, 198 Middleton Road, 202 Lowestoft Road and 3, 9, 15, 26 and 32 Russell Avenue. The air raid shelter located at 172 Middleton Road is larger than the rest, measuring 4m by 3m and is has a clearly visible entrance.
