Map

January 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A possible World War Two pillbox is visible on aerial photographs on Elm Avenue, Gorleston (S1) to (S3). The site is centred on TG 5233 0376. In 1945 a roofless polygonal structure is visible located at the end of Elm Avenue and next to the railway line (S2). This is similar in shape and size to a type 24 pillbox, although it is not an exact match. The structure is also visible in 1944 (S1), although it is hard to discern whether it is had a roof at this time, due to shadow. It seems likely that this is a World War Two pillbox, possibly placed to provide fire along the railway line. The structure has been removed by February 1953 (S4).
