Map

A pair of World War Two air raid shelters is visible on aerial photographs (S1) within the back garden of 52 Lowestoft Road, Gorleston-on-Sea. The site is centred on TG 5255 0411. These shelters are visible as earth covered mounds, probably Anderson shelters, and these would have been for the use of the families living in the property. The fact that there are two shelters within on garden suggests that it would have served several households. One of the shelters consists of an oval mound, measuring 3.5m by 3m, the other is 2.5m by 2m.
S. Massey (NMP), 24 January 2006.
