Full Description
January 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A World War Two pillbox, possibly a type 20, is visible on aerial photographs on the Lower Esplanade at Gorleston-on- Sea (S1)-(S2). This pillbox, along with NHER 42338 to the immediate south, would have acted as a beach defence battery and would have provided defensive fire along the seafront and beach and would have been part of the wider invasion defences along the Gorleston cliffs, see NHER 42350 for details. The structure is centred on TG 5303 0346 and measures 5m across and has a blast wall protected entrance. This has the appearance of a type 20 pillbox. This pillbox had been removed by 1952 (S3).
S. Massey (NMP), 26 January 2006.
